History
Explore the rich tapestry of history woven into the very fabric of our establishment. Elevated Estates Brooksville was originally built in 1925 as The Tangerine Hotel. Located at 307 Howell Avenue the building boasts a captivating legacy.
Built in the Spanish Mission style reflective of its era, the property is a testament to architectural craftsmanship. Comprising three sections, with a central rectangular structure of three floors, adorned with characteristic terra cotta tiles along the sides of flat roofs, it exudes timeless charm.
The Tangerine Hotel quickly became a pivotal downtown venue. Hosting gatherings for prominent organizations such as the American Legion and the Kiwanis, it also served as the backdrop for various civic events, banquets, and conferences, including the first annual flower show by the Brooksville Garden Club in 1930.
The hotel played a fascinating role in international diplomacy, exemplified by a letter sent in 1925 to England's convalescing King George. Mayor F.B. Coogler, First National Bank President Charles Price, and Chamber of Commerce Secretary Lena Hawkins invited the King to recuperate in Brooksville, offering the entire hotel for his stay.

The Great Depression took its toll on the hotel, leading to a bankruptcy sale in 1936. Despite the economic challenges, it continued operations as a hotel for several years.
In 1983, a new chapter unfolded as the property was purchased by Tangerine Retirement Center, reimagined as Tangerine Cove, and transformed into an assisted living community. The building's legacy continued to evolve, marked by its sale in 2017 and subsequent rebranding. We purchased the property in 2023 rebranding it once again to Elevated Estates Brooksville.
Today, as you pass by you can witness the living history of 307 Howell Avenue and celebrate the resilience and enduring spirit of this historic landmark.
